I am twenty-six years old and eversince I started working, dozens of life insurance companies have come to me, seeking for my application. This situation certainly demands thinking and pondering as I must do my best to compare life insurance policies. And indeed, to compare life insurance would also mean doing the extra mile of researching about these companies.
It is quite amazing to note that not all of these insurance providers solicit premiums. There was one of them that actually offered a free insurance policy. One day, an agent called me through our office telephone and broke to me the news. According to her, I had won a special insurance policy through a raffle draw. I then tried to ask what company the agent was representing. After she told me, I suddenly realized that I was really not familiar with their company. And being the cynic that I am, I began asking them their profile. Soon, I tried to ask about the policy they were awarding me so I could compare life insurance of other companies. At the end of the conversation, I declined the offer. I have reasons for doing so.
First of all, life insurance policies are normally expensive. How could an unpopular company afford to give away policies to anybody, including those who are not even their previous clients? Something is terribly not right with that. Maybe, if the company is based in the uk where the establishments are more stable, then it may be possible.
Secondly, where could they have gotten my name that it found its way into their raffle? As far as I can remember, I never give out my mobile telephone number, nor my address to random people. I don't even know of anyone who works for that certain insurance company.
Thirdly, they were not asking for any monetary value but they were asking for so many other requirements. They asked for at least five identification cards and these had to be government-issued. They also wanted my Tax Identification Number which really made me wonder even more.
I understand that with the current economic recession, companies really have to think of more strategies to win their clientele. They may even have to sacrifice a portion of their profit just to achieve this. But citizens also feel the impacts of recession. That is why in my case, I am very pessimistic about such unusual offers.
As an end, I would say that we must not jump right into every good offer we get especially on life insurance policies. To compare life insurance policies needs ample time for thinking and a really deep thinking to come up with a sound decision.
